Purpose of the Role

The Program Assistant will oversee designated play labs and ensure the effective implementation of ECD project activities. The role focuses on quality assurance, children’s performance, community engagement, and achieving project objectives in line with BRAC standards and grant agreements.

Key Responsibilities

Community Mobilisation and Facilitation

  • Disseminate project objectives to communities, government, and stakeholders
  • Apply participatory approaches to identify community needs
  • Facilitate community ownership and participation in play lab activities
  • Coordinate procurement, logistics, and administration in line with BRAC policies

Project Implementation and Monitoring

  • Ensure children’s attendance exceeds 90% at play labs
  • Organise monthly parent and community meetings
  • Monitor children’s progress and play lab quality
  • Conduct regular field visits and submit monitoring reports
  • Supervise and appraise play leaders’ performance

Coordination, Networking, and Advocacy

  • Maintain strong relationships with local authorities and stakeholders
  • Participate in district and community meetings
  • Link children to available social and educational services
  • Advocate for child-focused programming at local government level

Child Protection and Safeguarding

  • Promote child rights-based programming
  • Ensure compliance with BRAC’s child protection policies
  • Report and address child abuse cases appropriately
  • Support functional Child Protection Committees at play labs

Reporting and Documentation

  • Submit monthly progress reports to the Area Manager
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices
  • Ensure project assets are well maintained

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Early Childhood Care and Development
  • Education Management
  • Sociology
  • Social Work
  • Development Studies
  • Community Development

Experience

  • 1–2 years’ experience working with NGOs or education-related programmes
  • Teaching experience in early childhood education is an added advantage
  • Experience in administration and leadership
  • Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility and problem-solving ability
  • Knowledge of the Tanzanian education system and early learning services
