Position Overview
- Job Title: Geologist
- Number of Positions: Two (02)
- Reporting To: Senior Geologist
- Contract Type: Permanent
- Work Environment: Underground Gold Mining
Role Purpose
The Geologist role is responsible for overseeing and directing geological activities related to underground mining development. The position ensures accurate geological data collection, interpretation, and reporting to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise geological drilling, core logging, sampling, and geological data entry.
- Produce accurate sectional interpretations, level plans (flitches), solid models, and block models.
- Ensure ore drives remain on ore at all times and footwall drives maintain consistent standoff.
- Share geometallurgical knowledge with metallurgists to optimize gold recovery.
- Use geological information to support optimized mine planning and production.
- Plan, organize, and control drilling budgets.
- Conduct detailed geological and structural logging and interpretation.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly MRM drilling and mapping reports.
- Ensure daily updates of geological plans, structure maps, and heading plans.
- Deliver accurate end-of-month geology reports, royalty reports, and quarterly reports.
- Support underground grade control drilling, logging, and sampling.
- Participate in training and development of geologists, technicians, and assistants.
- Ensure quality control of sampling and assay processes.
- Collect and integrate structural, lithological, and geotechnical data into 3D models.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or a closely related field.
- Additional mining or geological certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mining or mineral exploration.
- Experience in underground gold mining, preferably narrow-vein operations.
- Strong computer skills and experience with:
- Datamine
- Vulcan
- Leapfrog
- Acquire Database
- MS Office
- Excellent time management and planning skills.
- Strong communication skills in English and Swahili.
